About the Spires

North Derbyshire Chargers are a new team in May 2008 on the back of a merger between the Chesterfield Spires and Eckington Chargers. The Spires were about to compete in their fourth season whilst starting to develop the junior arm of the club. This merger with Eckington who are a new team in 2008 enables the club to develop at much faster rate having already established a junior and womens section under the Eckington banner.The Chargers will be based out of Chesterfield RUFC. Since their inception in 2003 , The Spires have enjoyed steady growth from their start as a group of Rugby League enthusiasts meeting on a local park once a week for a game of touch, to managing to field a team for competitive fixtures in 2005 and eventually in 2006 entering a formal league competition, the Midland Merit League. The Chargers will field two open age teams in the Rugby League Merit League in 2008 as well as a womens and two junior teams.
